about

The ghosts of the homesteaders still ride the trails to Willowdale.

lyrics

Willowdale

On summer nights, when the moon's just right,
And the coyotes wail
Buckboards ride the road to Willowdale

In the aspen forest, where the old roads meet
Lie scattered logs in rotting heaps
Near a hearth of stone where the chimney stood
There’s a weathered brand on a plank of wood.

The barn's still there, though the roof’s caved in
The barnyard littered with sheets of tin.
And a horseshoe swings upside down
Its luck spilled out on the cold hard ground.

But on summer nights, when the moon's just right,
And the coyotes wail
Buckboards ride the road to Willowdale

Now, there’s no one there, but an old black bear
That paws the ground and sniffs the air
As the ruffed grouse drums to call its mate
The weeds grow tall around the garden gate.

Though the trails still meet near the old barn door
No one calls here anymore
The bridge washed out years before
The homesteads gone since the great world war.
